On June 1 we'll have the second First Friday Art Opening at The Art of Your Life. This month I'll be showing new work, including encaustic, painting, and collage. The opening is 6-9 PM at 1210 SE Oak St., Portland. From 6-7 we'll be treated to the wonderful music of singer-songwriter Julianna Waters, together with two other great musicians. So come early if you can, to hear these folks.
The First Friday openings are organized by the Central Eastside Art District who will be putting out a new map of galleries and sponsoring businesses on June 1. The Eastside District is a lively one with lots of passionate and vivid art on view! The website for CEAD is:
Hope to see you June 1 for art, music, and refreshments!
I also want to take this space to thank the organizers of the Mt. Tabor Art Walk and to thank my lovely hosts, Carol and Steve Sloan, makers of nature-inspired, uniquely crafted garden art. You can reach them at firstname.lastname@example.org.

I inadvertently scheduled the "Assemble Yourself" workshop for Mothers Day--not surprisingly, there are still openings! Bring your mom for an unusual Mothers Day activity!
Using found objects (old junk and stuff), paper, fabric, clay and more, you’ll create a 3-D collage that expresses your passions and your dreams. You'll explore ways to combine objects and images that unite in a striking and meaningful work of art. You'll leave with a unique finished assemblage, perfect for a special gift or cherished keepsake.
Led by Serena Barton
Tuition: 90. (includes many supplies)
Morning snacks provided. Bring a brown bag lunch.

First Friday, May 4, saw the blossoming of "Emergence", a show of work by students from Art of Your Life classes, workshops, groups and coaching. Participants were: Polly Burton, Linda Haynes, Andy Serdar, Jennifer Johnston, Mary Stilwell, Paulette Insall, Nicole Lilak, Kristin Maus, Connie Reynolds, Karen Joy Campbell, Cris Skinner, Gretchin Lair, Bonnie Ward, and Diane Havnen-Smith.
Wonderful singing and guitar music was provided by Julianna Waters and Barry Crannell, musicians extraordinaire. Lots of people came to the show and were impressed and inspired by the work. Some of the artists remarked that they gained new respect for their own work by seeing it displayed gallery-style.
Thanks to all who participated, attended, and helped!
