Oil/Cold Wax Class on the Oregon Coast

Jac created this piece in class. It's now on view next door to the Bloom studio, at Touchstone Gallery!

I had so much fun going through the photos I took from "Expressive Abstraction in Oil and Cold Wax", the class I taught a couple of weeks ago in Yachats, OR. This was the third time I've had the pleasure of teaching at Bloom! an artscape, the summer studio of Sandy Mier. I was happy to see familiar faces and meet new ones.

I hope you enjoy seeing some of what students produced over two days. Most of these pieces are on paper, though a few are on wood panels. This is the first installment, as these students were prolific and inventive!

Layers of Memory and Imagination at Artiscape

This Artiscape class covered making packing tape transfers, gel medium transfers, and collage creating. Each of these student pieces is unique. I love all the ways the class participants evoked the mystery and emotion of the past! Even when several people used the same photo, the pieces were completely original. Enjoy!

Art and Soul Virginia Beach and Rusted Cloth in Back Yard

I looked up from working on my book to see that my talented friend and colleague, Erin Keck had made this collage of my classes at the upcoming Art and Soul Virginia Beach. I am so impressed! Thank you Erin!

My teenage grandson was over yesterday and I showed him how I rust cloth. He isn't into art, but he does like to see processes. I sprayed cotton muslin with a solution of vinegar and water (50/50). Then I sprayed a bunch o' rusty things and wrapped them up in the cloth. I covered them loosely with plastic and let them sit in the back yard overnight. I really like how it turned out!

Art and Soul Retreat Portland is almost here!

On the Brink
Vintage book, encaustic paint, teabags, vintage embellishments, chicken wire, plant material
I'll be teaching this class,"Waxing Literary with Charlotte" at Art & Soul

I'm so excited for Art and Soul which starts April 7 in Portland. I'll be teaching two day and two evening classes. I still have spots open, so check out my classes and those of all our wonderful instructors. Even though I live in town, I'm going to take a mini-vacation and stay three nights in comfort at the Red Lion Inn at Janzen Beach. Can't wait to hang out with instructors and students from years past! It's like a big family reunion (without the dysfunction:)

Friday of Art and Soul week I'm going to take a class myself from Jane Davies. I'll be sure to show you what I create in the class.

For the latest hunting and gathering report visit my Wabi-Sabi Art Workshop blog.

Strata of Time: Work from my cold wax/oil class at collage

Here, at last are some images from one of the classes I taught at Collage on Alberta a couple of weeks ago. I've been longing to show them to you, but I've been lethargic due to a cold, so haven't posted for a while.

Coming up: Images from my other wabi-sabi class at Collage, a hunting and gathering report, and info. on my new DVDs coming up from North Light.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The enthusiastic students played with oil paint, cold wax medium, and mixed media elements. They created lively and stunning work over the two day class. We had so much fun! Cold wax is kinda messy, but so satisfying to work with.
