"Altered Alchemy" at Art and Soul

Before I share photos from the second class I taught at Art and Soul last week, let me show you what I came home to...We had water damage to two bathrooms a few weeks before the retreat. Now asbestos folks have come and gone as well as the damage cleanup people. Now we're ready to reconstruct the bathrooms. Happy retreat memories sustain me during this process!

The gutted upstairs bathroom. Kinda wabi-sabi?

Now I'll get to the good stuff. This class was subtitled "Altered Books 101." We covered preparing the books, backgrounds, photo transfers, adding embellishments, and a lot more. I hope I led the students into becoming altered book addicts like myself!

Retreat Photos Chapter One

Retreat season is now over for me until April. I've been honored to be an instructor at Art and Soul in Portland and Art is...You in Stamford Connecticut. I arrived home from Connecticut eager to share photos of my student's work. I've had such an amazing time teaching and connecting with retreat friends.

Attending retreats is like a bunch of really fun family reunions with the chance to make new friends thrown in. I'm still too excited to sleep, though I need to, so I'll start the first photo dispatch from Art and Soul here in Portland. These photos are from an acrylic class called "Landscape of Dreams." Students worked from landscape photos and/or created their own realistic or abstract landscapes. Thanks to my delightful student, Leslie Wigley, for sending me these photos!

Photos from "Wax Reflections"

Stunning student work from my encaustic portrait class at Art is...You in Petaluma. Some of these students had never painted a portrait before, let alone in wax. Several chose to paint their children and grandchildren and two did portraits of their pooches. I'm so impressed by the work this class did!
