Updates and Tidbits

Did you know that Art and Soul Retreat is having a sale on classes until July 1st? You've still got about a week to get the special "roll-back" price on a fabulous lineup of classes. I'll be teaching four classes!

You can catch my interview with Lesley Riley on Monday, June 24, at 4 PM Pacific Time. The interview will also be up on the Art and Soul Radio site after that, so you can listen any time. Thanks to Lesley, who is a creative and thoughtful interviewer as well as artist!

I'll be traveling to Northern New Mexico next week and promise to take some inspiring photos for you. I love my Pacific NW, but it's also important to me to make regular pilgrimages to magic Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. The light there is strong and inspiring, and the melange of cultures that make up this area is so rich. Lots of art to be seen, the smells of pinon and sage--can't wait...

Shelley's Portrait in Progress

A while back I shared some collages my art coaching student, Shelley had made. She has now moved on to encaustic portrait paintings. I just have to share the latest one. I am so impressed by the sense of movement here, as well as the use of light and shadow.

My Book Signing and Art Opening at Muse

(Reposted from Wabi-Sabi Art Workshop with Serena Barton)

A big thank you to all who came by Muse Art and Design in Portland OR last night for my special evening. And a big thanks to owner, Peter Rossing who hosted the event. I was touched by how many family members, friends, and strangers came to buy books and wish me well. A magical experience!

At one point I gathered some of the guests for a group picture

Troy Studios Open Studios and Art of Life Group

Last night I visited an open studio event at the former Troy Laundry Building, now a busy warren of artists called Troy Studios. I first visited Julia Gardner who combines her own photography of Portland with gorgeous color and encases it in resin. I have one of her UrbanScapes in my kitchen and it cheers me to look at it every day.

I also visited the studio of Andrea Benson, who creates exquisitely beautiful and detailed encaustic work. Here are a couple of pieces I saw there.

This afternoon my women's art group, The Art of Life, met at my studio. It was such a fun and productive day. See my other blog for work done by Sarah and me.

Kelly paints in encaustic. Today she finished a portrait, a cup of tea, and an Asian-inspired encaustic collage. Wow!

Cindy is an acrylic painter and collage artist. The acrylic piece below refers to a Feng Shui method of re-creating energy and inspiration by moving 27 objects from one place to another. (I so have to try this.)
