I had so much delight in teaching this class, "Landscape of Memory" to a large group at Artiscape in Dublin Ohio, sponsored by European Papers and organized by the amazing Lisa Ohmer. The "assignment" in class was to paint abstract landscapes inspired by photographs or the imagination.
It isn't always easy to abstract from a photo or from an image in one's mind. You have to think about what the most important elements are, what time of day it is, what mood you want to express. This group did wonderfully and were brave and bold in their experiments.
I'm posting a lot of pictures here, but I hope you will take a look at all of them. I'm impressed by the quality of the work and fascinated by all the different ways students used their palette knives, acrylic paint, and mediums to create dreamy landscapes!

Wow these are so fabulous!!! I completely enjoyed looking at each and every one of these paintings. Thank you for sharing them Serena. Was just thinking of you as I posted a landscape painting using your techniques in my latest blog post. I cannot tell you how often I refer to your book-and am very anxiously awaiting your next. I just bought some cold wax and oil paints and am dying to learn about the cold wax/collage method!
